Types of Windows and Their Benefits

Windows are an integral part of every home, as they offer ventilation and allow the light to come into the building. Today, there are various types of windows available in the market that can be installed in homes and offices. Each of these windows serves a distinctive purpose and enhances the look of a building.

Different Types of Windows and Their Advantages

Some of the most commonly installed windows types and their benefits are as follows:

1. Casement Windows

These windows open outwards, to either the left or right, since their operable panels are hinged on the side. The main advantage of these windows is that they can easily be tilted to direct the breeze into the room. They also have a multi-point locking system for enhanced security. Also, they are air-tight and water-resistant when closed.

2. Awning Windows

These windows are attached to the frame on the top with hinges and can be opened towards the outside when they are swung upwards. Since they are usually placed on the top or at the bottom of the openings, they ventilate and illuminate the room without compromising your privacy. Furthermore, these windows create a water-resistant awning, making them ideal for rainy weathers.

3. Skylight Windows

These windows make the best choice for allowing maximum light and fresh air into a room through the roof.

4. Sliding Windows

These types of windows open sideways and allow light and air to enter the room. They are easily operable, which makes them the cheapest and commonly installed window type.

5. Bay Windows

These windows have three or more openings that facilitate light transmission at different angles and airflow through the side windows when opened. This type of window is commonly installed in family rooms and kitchens.

6. Tilt and Turn Windows

These windows do not have grills or bars and thus make for good emergency exits. They offer ample ventilation, illumination, and protection from heavy rainfall. They are resistant to corrosion, rust, and termites and can be cleaned easily.

The above-listed are the window types that offer maximum light, air, and various other advantages in a building. Further, different windows can be styled to suit the architectural design of a building.
